Yogscast TTT - Breeh

This character was the third in a series of models I have created in my free time for The Yogscast. This character is now used in their TTT series on YouTube.

Breeh was the first character I created with my new workflow. I now work with a concept artist to design these characters with input from the Yogscast member who requested it.

The outfits for this character come from Breeh’s favourite anime series. It was a lot of fun recreating some of these iconic looks in 3D. He also has outfits that are references to Yogscast content and inside jokes that are not included in this image.

Taking inspiration from stop motion films. I split Breeh’s face into two halves. This exponentially raised the potential expressions for the character from a measly 6, to an astounding 216 combinations. I think… I was never that good at math.

Breeh's outfits are split into body meshes and hats. There's less variations than my older models, but since we had concept art produced the outfits are more curated.

Breeh has three 2K textures for his outfits and one 2K texture for his base model. His third outfit set has space for more outfits to be added later in the future if needed!

By using a texture mask with an alpha channel, in Garry’s Mod, we are able to add colour customization to our player models. The parts that need to change colour have to be white on the albedo texture. The mask is set up so any black areas will be ignored

Breeh has several physics bones on his main body (ears, quiff, tail) and some that exist exclusively to add physics to his outfits. (ex: Jacket Ends, Gold Chain) these all serve to add secondary motion to the characters animations.

Finally, here's a look at some of the concept art I commissioned for this character. Done by Thom Bird: https://mincedgrief.tumblr.com/

This was the first TTT model I made based on a request from on of the members of The Yogscast. I took a new approach on this one, enlisting the assistance of a concept artist, Thom, who I had worked with here and there over the course of a decade at that point. His art brought a new level of appeal to this character that I wouldn't have been able to achieve alone.

The character was sculpted in ZBrush. It was retopologized and rigged in Autodesk Maya. 3D Coat was used to create the UVs, and it was finally textured with Substance Painter. After that it was imported into Garry's Mod and released.

Special thanks to Thom Bird for designing this character for me. https://mincedgrief.tumblr.com/
